2008 Junior Rankings
Here are the current 2008 junior rankings after round 4.
Reid Tierney is holding onto first place at the moment with Alex Fowler snapping at his heals in 2nd.
With the Juniors, the boys and girls weigh their biggest fish for each session. A total of 3 Bass recorded over the weekend if everything goes to plan.
The overall results at the end of the year will be decided by your best 5 rounds.
Point System is as follows: 100 points for 1st / 95 for 2nd / 90 for 3rd etc.
If you don’t catch a fish over the weekend you will be penalized an additional 5 points.
So if you guys don’t fair so well in a couple of rounds, or you can’t make it to some events you can drop those rounds. We do understand that it can be hard for you to attend all events throughout the year.
Remember Your Best 5 Rounds Count!!!
NSW Bassin Tournaments – Round 4 Lake Glenbawn
58 teams arrived at Lake Glenbawn to compete in our round 4 event. The weekend started off on Friday night with the briefing where Carl “ Knuckles “ Jocumsen spoke to the competitors about teqniques that he would be using over the weekend. Carl and his Motley crew of Ross Murray, Dave Melrose and Matt Anderson drove down from Toowoomba to compete. It was great to have the boys there as they added a fair bit of spice (I mean spite) to the event. The old NSW / Queensland rivalry was very evident.
There were 259 fish caught over the 3 sessions with an average weight of 7.58kg. The fish weren’t big but very fat. With the rise in water levels and the increase in weed beds and food the bass have been feeding up. Give Glenbawn a couple of years and consistent water levels it should be back to its former glory days.
Champion team for the weekend was Team Loomis consisting of Mick “Hat Town “Pascoe and Luke Goodworth who fished for schooled fish all weekend. Their teqniques were to use ice jigs up around the boot area. ‘The fish over the last couple of weeks haven’t left this area’ Mick said, ‘so what a great place to start’. Mick and Luke started there and finished there scoring themselves 2 Lamiglas Certified Pro baitcaster rods from Blue Acres, 2 Tackle packs and $ 500.00 in fuel vouchers.
Second place went to Team Backlash, Toby Wilson and Sean Revell from Wee Waa who also fished towards the back of the dam and also targeted schooled fish. The boys opted though to jig evergreen blades and slow roll gulp jigging grubs in watermelon colour. For their efforts they received $ 400.00 in gift vouchers from Australian Bass Angler and Sports Fishing Boats Australia, Tackle packs and $ 300.00 in fuel vouchers.
Third place went to Team Fish N Bits, Carl Jocumsen & Ryan Jones. Ryan’s Brother Jack also fished with Carl in the second session. Carl and the boys were leading at the end of day 1 with a total of 8 fish caught but couldn’t hold on in the last session to clinch victory. They got their 4 fish but just didn’t have the weight. They were mainly working edges using plastics and Jackals to get their limit. Gift vouchers from Australian Bass Angler and Sports Fishing Boats Australia, tackle packs and fuel vouchers went their way.
Champion Junior went to the ever consistent Alex Fowler. Alex received a Humminbird shirt from BLA, A Lamiglas rod
Champion Female angler was Kylie Cornish who received gear from Wilsons Fishing and Megabass.
Big Bass went to Daniel Quarmby from Orange in the third session with 1.21kg.
A big thanks to our Sponsors for the weekend.
Bassman Spinnerbaits / Fish N Bits / BLA / Secret Creek / Wilsons / Dubbo Bait & Tackle / Canobolas Marine Centre / OTM / Blue Acres Lamiglas / Lake Glenbawn State Park/ Australian Bass Angler / Sports Fishing Boats Australia.
Also a special thanks to Sandra and Dennis from the kioskwho were run off their feet all weekend looking after us, keeping us well fed.
Hope everyone had a great time. See you at Lake St Clair in September for our next round.
Lostock Dam

R3 Results
While heading up the winding pot holed road to Lostock I was hoping that this little dam with a reputation of being a tough fishery was going to change it ways and look after us this weekend, letting go of a few of her monster bass that we know live there.
When arriving at the camp ground and setting up the marquee with Justin and big muddy I headed down to the dam to have a look . What a beautiful dam , lots of fishy areas ( Snags , weedbeds , rocky banks ) How good did it look. You would think that every cast would produce a fish. After talking to a Brendan and Luke from Dean City Boys who caught a 40cm 2.4kg Bass on prefish and Brad Turner from Team Nomads with a 40cm 1.8kg Bass my hopes were high for a great weekend.
Well how wrong was I. Apart from camping at a beautiful location , enjoying the fire and some great company, Lostock lived up to her reputation. But then again a fishing weekend is not all about lots of fish and big bag weights, or is that just something we tell ourselves when we have had a tough weekend.
37 teams competed with only 9 teams catching fish. No juniors or any female anglers caught fish either so this report will be short and sweet.
3 teams were reasonably happy though.
1st place went to Steve Richards and Nathan Weathered from Team Koolabung Lures . The boys caught there fish by trolling little deep divers around the edge of weed beds. A total of 5 fish for 5.5kg. They received 2 Lamiglas Certified Pro spin rods from Blue Acres and tackle packs for their efforts, along with 100 points towards the AOY tally.
2nd Place went to Mick Pascoe and Joel Norman from Team Loomis. Most of their fish were caught on deep fly . Mick nearly didn’t make it to session 3 on Sunday after making a pest of himself around the fire on Saturday night and upsetting his partner Big Joel who after copping a couple of chairs over his swag while trying to get some sleep got a bit upset with Mick . They kissed and made up though to take out second place. A total of 4 fish for 4.84 kg. Mick and Joel took home $ 400.00 in gift vouchers from Australian Bass Angler and Sports Fishing Boat Australia , along with tackle packs.
3rd Place went to Joel Smith and Wes Smith from guess who, Team Smiffs . A total of 2 fish for 2.2kg. The boys took home $ 300.00 in gift vouchers from Bass Angler and SFBA along with tackle packs.
Big Bass went to Justin Scott with a 1.57 kg Specimen. He took home a Patio heater for Big Bass.
The fisheries guys who attended on the weekend would like to that all those teams that participated in helping them out with their research . All fish remained healthy, with a slight concern over the water quality of some of the live wells. The best live well is a well that has been plumbed so that water can flow through. So maybe those teams without flow through wells could have a look at this.
I would like to thank all those teams who attended the Lostock weekend especially those that braved the windy conditions on Sunday Morning.
See you all at Lake Glenbawn on the 26th and 27th July.
Lake Glenbawn R2 Results
12th & 13th April saw 52 teams converge on Lake Glenbawn for round 2.
18 new teams were signed up at the Saturday night briefing with the majority of those never fishing a tournament before , but with a quick rule and safety rundown and a word from our major sponsors for the night , Australian Bass Angler and Sports Fishing boats
Australia ,everybody headed off back to camp in anticipation of the next days event .
The weekend saw a lot of small fish being weighed in with a good few anglers heading out without rulers in their boat , then coming back with undersize fish. Big Mick was onto this though with plenty of Fisheries stickers being handed out before session 2.
Only one team caught their full bag 12/12 limit for the weekend. Team Savage’s Jade Cornish and Craig Robertson, fished very shallow weedbeds , throwing silent Jackalls with locked up drags. The fish didn’t start to bight until the shallow flats started to warm up Craig said . The boys persisted in the same spot all weekend catching a lot of fish and getting smoked a good number of times. Other competitors called in to visit through out the weekend but after only catching weed they decided to moved on. But the Savage boys stayed, pulling off weed and caught fish. Craig and Jade received 2 Lamiglas Certified Pro rods from Blue Acres and $ 500.00 worth of fuel vouchers.
2nd place saw a couple of old timers in Greg Parkes and Steve Almond ( Team Just 4 Fun ) take out second place. The boys mainly fished for deep schooled fish , finishing up the weekend with 10/12 limit . Every time we called past to see how they were going they said that they were doing it tough but at the end of each session always came back with a good bag. ( Sly old dogs ) Steve and Greg received $ 400.00 in gift vouchers from Australian Bass Angler and fuel cards for the trip home.
Champion Junior was 13 year old Alex Fowler from Orange who caught his fish throwing Surface lures. Alex jumped in the boat with ABT regular John Brider ( Team Tenessee ) who came down from Brisbane to fish the event and the boys finished in 3rd place.
Champion Female Angler Veronica Fowler survived the weekend, fishing with husband Matt ( Team Family Fued ). Veronica took home a Wilson Live Fibre rod and 2 nights accommodation in one of Lake Glenbawns cabins donated by Glenbawn State Parks.
Big Bass went to David Mudd with a bass of 1.2 kg and took home an outdoor patio heater for his troubles
Although the fishing was once again pretty tough , the weather was good and the days were absolutely fantastic. Hope to see everyone at Lostock

NSW Bassin Tournaments held there first round at Lake St Clair on the 2nd and 3rd Febuary 53 Teams competed in a hard shutdown bite, probably due to the fact that the water levels of the lake have been very unstable of late. With rising water levels the fishing seemed to be very inconsistent. |
1st - One team stood out though . Craig Quinton and Paul Newcombe from I’m Bassin teamed up to take out the first round. The boys worked Spinner baits and lipless crankbaits along the edges to get their bag. Craig and Paul picked up a matching pair of Lamiglass XS 661 BA Certified Pro tournament rods matched to Shimano Stradic reels and an 85L Icekool ice box .
2nd – Allen Cleary and Greg Beattie from Team Xtreme had another tactic all together . They also worked an area up near the top arm but opted to work the flats with Surface Poppers pulling most of their fish in both the morning sessions but struggling on Saturday afternoon. Allen and Greg received matching pairs of BLA wet weather jackets and pants .
3rd- Grant Boyle and Reid Tierney from Team First Blood opted to troll , due to the fact that Grants electric packed it in . The boys picked up PFD’s and Kokoda fishing shirts for their troubles.
Champion Junior was the ever consistant Reid Tierney with 3 Fish for 2.560kg and was all smiles picking up the a Lamiglass CS 661 rod and Diawa Procaster spin reel for his troubles.
Champion Female angler Maree Scott soldiered away all weekend consistently out fishing her husband in all 3 sessions . Maree spent most of her time on the water sitting on the back deck of the Skeeter casually casting Poppers and and slow rolling plastics to get her bag. Just goes to show that a relaxed attitude can certainly mean more fish. Maree received a Wilsons Live Fibre spin stick matched to a Diawa Procaster reel and a wet weather jacket from BLA.
Encouragement award went to Team Fossil . The guys consistently caught no fish all weekend but with a great attitude and their determined nature they deserved to receive this prestigious award. Congratulations Lyle and Mark.
NSW Bassin Tournaments would like to thank our sponsors for supporting this event. Blue Acres / Lamiglass / Megabass / Gamakatsu / Bassman Spinnerbaits / Kokoda / Smak Fishing / Mathew Mott Barra Tours / Secret Creek Lures / Lake Glenbawn Kiosk / Dubbo Bait and Tackle.
